Evolve or die. It’s a cliche today, but clichés become such for a reason, often because they capture a deep truth.
Even before COVID disrupted — well, everything, it was obvious the commerce landscape had changed. A change that was part of the building swell of digital transformation in general. The driver? Organizations must be incredibly nimble to compete today. And this requires tech stacks that can adapt and change at pace with, if not ahead of, the market and customer expectations.
While Sitecore was on the bleeding edge of the headless content and personalization revolutions, today’s markets demand more; namely, a cloud-native, fully composable, API-first, microservices digital experience stack.
Today’s e-commerce needs to be composable
If that load of technobabble doesn’t mean much to you, let me translate the vision: A composable technology infrastructure that enables organizations to plug in (or pull out) the solutions they need (or no longer need) as soon as they need (or don’t need) them, versus a year later.
For those used to legacy systems, which may take a year or longer to get from recognized need to functionality, this vision may seem far off. But as Forrester Principal Analyst, Lee Sustar and Lauren Nelson, Forrester VP and Research Director point out in a 2021 blog, they may need to get moving faster than they think:
“(2022) will see big organizations move decisively away from lift-and-shift approaches to the cloud, embracing cloud-native technologies instead. Having watched the hyperscalers upend entire industries — perhaps including their own — enterprises will accelerate their move into cloud-scale applications to meet their competitive challenges.”
Foreseeing the inevitable, we pivoted quickly — acquiring and then launching Sitecore OrderCloud in April, 2021, and doing the same with Sitecore Discover in September. In short, we moved to align our solutions with our vision of a quickly approaching future to equip our customers for the road ahead.
Confirming our strategy
We’re pleased to see that Forrester, in our opinion, recognizes this. At the end of last year, Forrester named Sitecore OrderCloud a Leader in “The Forrester New Wave™: Marketplace Development Platforms, Q4 2021.”
And this year, we’re thrilled to see we’re being recognized as a Strong Performer in “The Forrester Wave™: B2B Commerce Solutions, Q2 2022.”
This is the first time we’ve had a chance to be in the B2B Commerce Solutions Wave report, and we’re glad to be included in the list of 10 top solutions.
Why read the full report?
Horn tooting is fun, we admit. But we bring this all up for another reason: your industry is changing; you should be too.
And we admit something else: Investing in technology is a big deal. While the future vision we’re helping to bring about makes it less daunting — freeing you up to plug and play as needed, versus being tied to legacy systems whose functionality you may only have ever used half of — it’s still critical to understand the specific problems you face, the solutions available, and those ideal for your unique needs.
“The Forrester Wave™: B2B Commerce Solutions, Q2 2022” offers insight into what to look for in commerce providers, 10 top solution providers, analysis around each one, and more. While no single report is exhaustive, this is a great place to start for those looking to advance their B2B commerce game.
There’s a reason customers such as NBC Sports Next, Famous Footwear, Big Lots, Skechers, Papa John's, and Lane Bryant continue to trust us for their composable commerce solutions. If you think Sitecore might be a good fit for your organization, we’d love to learn more about the unique challenges and opportunities you face. Reach out today to explore more.
