1998
Before there was Sitecore... there was Pentia
In 1998, five friends – Thomas Albert, Jakob Christensen, Peter Christensen, Ole Thrane, and Michael Seifert – founded Pentia A/S, a systems integration company focused on implementing websites built with Microsoft technologies.

1999
Sitecore 1.0 is released
1999
With the release of Sitecore 1.0, our product logo was designed. Did you know it represents the steps of the Trekroner Fort lighthouse in Copenhagen?

2001
Sitecore Corporation founded

In 2001, the Sitecore Corporation was founded, with Michael Seifert as the CEO, and Sitecore 3.0 was released, beginning to take the content management system (CMS) market by storm.
2002
Copenhagen office is opened

Sitecore 4.0 built entirely in .NET

2002-2007
Sitecore expands internationally
Beginning with Ukraine in 2002, followed by the US in 2004 and UK in 2005, then Australia in 2007, and the Netherlands and Sweden in 2008, Sitecore's international expansion was swift and reflected our growth.

Online Marketing Suite is released
Sitecore Online Marketing Suite, born out of Seifert's strategic vision to go beyond making "a typewriter for the web", created a central repository of information for each web visitor, which could be used to create and deliver personalized digital experiences. The foundation was laid for Sitecore Experience Platform.

Canada & Germany offices opened

Our expansion continued with offices opened in Canada & Germany

Sitecore acquires Pectora
Sitecore acquired the development team and the intellectual property of Pectora, a long-standing Sitecore technology partner.

A banner year
This was a big year for Sitecore. With the release of Sitecore 7.0, we coined our tagline "Own the experience" and were chosen as "Best Enterprise Solution" by Critics Choice. The stage was set for our dominance of the Web Content Management market.

Microsoft Alliance ISV Partner of the Year

Sitecore earns the coveted honor from the technology giant and one our most important strategic partnerships.

Belgium, Malaysia, China & Indonesia offices opened

Sitecore 8.0 released

EQT takes a majority stake in Sitecore

EQT, a purpose-driven global investment corporation, acquired a majority stake in Sitecore to help us drive growth, in partnership with our founders.
We also announced our partnership with Microsoft Azure. Together, these two events helped fuel amazing growth in the next few years.

Middle East and India offices opened

Sitecore 9.0 released
2018
A signature year
A lot happened for Sitecore in 2018. We acquired Stylelabs, Gartner named us a Leader in the Web Content Management Magic Quadrant for the 10th year in a row, and we began expanding our partnership with Salesforce.

2018
Sitecore acquires Stylelabs
Stylelabs' marketing content hub includes DAM, MRM, PIM and CMP, making Sitecore the only company that can deliver functionality spanning the entire content lifecycle, for an end-to-end digital marketing solution.

2019
Rebrand and a new website

Sitecore’s branding got an entirely new look and we upgraded our website to Sitecore 9.0 to showcase the capabilities of our personalization.

Sitecore acquires Hedgehog
Sitecore acquired Hedgehog Development, a customer and partner-focused digital consultancy to help accelerate our growth while bolstering the people, technology, and services supporting Sitecore Solution Partners.

2020
Sitecore names Steve Tzikakis CEO

Tzikakis joined Sitecore at a time when the company’s solutions were seeing unprecedented demand. In the wake of the pandemic, businesses are finding it crucial to interact and make human connections via a digital experience — often the only way to engage directly with customers.

Sitecore 10 released
2021
Our biggest year yet
In January, we announced the largest investment ever in martech to grow our business, expand our employee base and accelerate product innovation. Later in the year, we acquired Boxever, Four51, Moosend, and Reflektion.

The future is bright
In 2022, Sitecore is re-imagining the Digital Experience Platform space, with our cloud-based, SaaS-enabled, composable DXP. We continue to grow at a historic rate and our brand is getting another refresh that’s bold, highlighting our inventiveness and passion for what we do. It's an exciting time — join us!
