Sitecore has announced its intent to acquire two companies: Boxever, which provides a cloud-native, AI-driven customer data platform with best-in-class personalization, experimentation, and optimization capabilities; and Four51, which provides a cloud-native, API-first, headless B2B commerce platform. Both acquisitions are subject to customary closing conditions and are expected to be completed in March 2021.

Boxever is a customer data platform (CDP) that provides a 360-degree view of customers, advanced segmentation, real-time decisioning and experimentation which acts as the “brain” within an organization's marketing stack to make every customer interaction more relevant and engaging. Boxever’s capabilities expand and enhance Sitecore’s customer intelligence and AI-driven personalization tools making it easy to capture, unify and activate customer data and deliver personalized experiences at scale. The company was founded in 2011, is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland and has approximately 70 employees.

Q: Who is Four51?

Four51 is a cloud-native, API-first, headless commerce platform that helps shape and deliver buyer-specific shopping experiences for B2B focused brands. The company was founded in 1999, is headquartered in Minneapolis, and has approximately 50 employees.

Q: What does the combination of Sitecore, Boxever, and Four51 mean to the market?

  3. Apply AI-driven digital Decisioning capabilities to connect operational data to factor in everything from dynamic pricing and promotions to inventory levels and risk factors, and recommend next-best-actions on every channel with smarter product, content, and offer recommendations.

Boxever’s API-driven platform is engineered to easily connect into any tech stack, and has integrations with numerous marketing clouds, email solutions, ad platforms, mobile messaging solutions, contact center platforms, and more.

Q: What is the rationale for Sitecore’s acquisition of Boxever?

Delivering a relevant, personalized experience across channels and throughout the customer journey requires a holistic view of customer intelligence – down to the individual level – but inconsistent, siloed data is still a major marketing problem. Boxever’s CDP solves this challenge by centralizing data collection, unifying customer profiles from disparate sources, and activating that data with decisioning, experimentation, and real-time personalization capabilities.

Q: Who are some of Boxever’s customers and what is the company’s annual revenue?

Boxever’s customers include many of the world’s most recognized brands, such as Emirates, Ryanair, Vodafone, and Allied Irish Banks (AIB). Boxever is a private company and does not disclose its annual revenue.

Four51’s product is known as OrderCloud, a next-generation, B2B-focused commerce platform based on MACH architecture, meaning it is:

Q: What is the rationale for Sitecore’s acquisition of Four51?

The COVID-19 pandemic propelled digital commerce to become the leading customer buying channel for many organizations, particularly for B2B organizations that previously relied on non-digital customer interactions for selling. At the same time, this acceleration highlighted the need for companies to adopt microservices-based, API-first, cloud-native, and headless (aka MACH) platforms that offer the flexibility and agility necessary to keep pace with changing demands.

Four51’s cloud-native, B2B commerce platform puts Sitecore in a position to define the digital commerce market for the next decade with solutions that empower companies to quickly deliver innovative, buyer-specific shopping experiences. 2. BUSINESS CONTINUITY


 

Q: How is this acquisition expected to impact ongoing development of Boxever and Four51 products?

Until the closing of each acquisition, Boxever, Four51, and Sitecore will remain separate companies. After closing, Boxever’s and Four51’s products will become key components of Sitecore’s portfolio of digital experience management solutions. Sitecore will continue to support customers’ investments in Boxever’s and Four51’s products, and research and development investments in these solutions are expected to increase. After the transactions close, Sitecore plans to share more information on how Boxever and Four51 will fit into Sitecore’s product portfolio and roadmap.

Q: Will these acquisitions affect any of Sitecore’s current products?

Sitecore will continue to invest in our current products per our existing roadmap. In fact, Sitecore Experience Platform (XP) 10.1 was just released and offers new personalization capabilities including Sitecore AI – Auto Personalization as a standard feature of XP subscriptions.

Otherwise, the Sitecore platform will only get better as we integrate Boxever’s and Four51’s offerings through the course of FY2022. As more of Sitecore’s offerings become SaaS-based – in addition to Boxever, Four51, Sitecore Content Hub, Experience Edge, and Sitecore AI – we will help customers maximize their current investments while also getting on the path to a holistic, cloud-native architecture that enables them to deliver digital experiences faster, increase application scalability and resilience, and reduce technical complexity and cost. Our intent is to allow customers to transform their martech stack to SaaS as they see fit – in an iterative fashion, with the ability to choose what capabilities and services to transition and at what time, according to the unique requirements of their business.

Q: Will the Boxever and Four51 leadership and employees be retained?

Every senior leader at Boxever and Four51 has agreed to stay with Sitecore. Moreover, the employees of both organizations have significant domain expertise and will become an integral part of Sitecore as soon as the acquisition closes. Not inclusive of these acquisitions, Sitecore is looking to hire hundreds of new people in the next year.

Q: Will Boxever and Four51 be integrated under the Sitecore brand or will they maintain their own brands?

Once the acquisitions close—expected in March 2021—Boxever and Four51, and their respective products, will be integrated under the Sitecore brand.

Q: How is Sitecore’s acquisition of Boxever and Four51 expected to benefit Boxever and Four51 customers?

Boxever and Four51 customers will benefit from an increased investment in research and development for each companies’ products. In addition, customers will benefit from access to Sitecore’s global customer success organizations and partner ecosystem.

Q: Can I still purchase Boxever and Four51 products and services?

Yes. Boxever and Four51 products and services continue to be available. Please contact your existing Boxever and Four51 sales representative, respectively, to assist you.

Q: Should Boxever and Four51 customers continue to call Boxever and Four51 account management and customer support?

Yes, Boxever, Four51, and Sitecore will remain separate companies until the closing of each acquisition. Boxever and Four51 customers should continue to use existing contacts for support, professional services, and sales to address immediate and ongoing needs. We will communicate any changes and transitions through appropriate channels.

Q: How will Sitecore continue to support and broaden relationships with Boxever and Four51 partners?

Until each transaction closes, Boxever, Four51, and Sitecore will continue to operate as independent businesses. Boxever and Four51 partners should continue to use existing Boxever and Four51 partner contacts, respectively, to address immediate and ongoing needs for support, professional services, and sales. As contact information changes, we will communicate these changes through normal channels. Boxever and Four51 management will be reaching out to their respective partners to answer any questions. Partners may also use their existing Sitecore channels to answer any questions.
