Supporting the energy transition
BDR Thermea Group is going through a major transformation, shifting their HVAC solution offering to help enable the energy transition for their customers. To support customers in the energy transition, it needed more agile and flexible digital capabilities.
BDR Thermea’s 20 legacy websites were heavily customized for different brands and regions, which impacted speed to market. To boost performance, improve developer agility, and simplify content creation for marketers, the company wanted to centralize and standardize its web platform.
Centralizing websites with a composable approach
BDR Thermea partnered with Avanade and Accenture Song to explore a composable approach on Sitecore XM Cloud. A six-week proof of concept (POC) exercise demonstrated the platform’s simplicity, speed, and intuitiveness.
The digital transformation that followed involved the development of two information architectures, 13 templates, and 46 components in Sitecore to simplify the launch and day-to-day management of 20 websites globally. Dozens of engagement sessions were held with the group’s operating companies to tailor content roll-out for the nuanced needs of each local organization.
The team is now migrating all website content to the new composable platform and implementing new, more complex functionality. In addition to supporting new e-commerce capabilities using Sitecore OrderCloud, BDR Thermea is planning to leverage personalization, A/B testing, and generative AI with its future-proof Sitecore foundations.
Maximizing productivity and performance
The composable platform simplifies content creation for marketers and improves developer agility, resulting in a 790% improvement in productivity and 50% greater back-office performance.
With the digital team able to focus on building new features rather than maintaining and customizing siloed sites, BDR Thermea has achieved a faster time-to-market. Additionally, the transition of all the group’s websites to the centralized Sitecore XM Cloud platform is expected to save the company more than €500,000 annually. The digital transformation also benefits BDR Thermea’s website users, with page speeds improved by up to 390% for mobile devices, and a ‘build your own’ window feature helping customers find products faster and more efficiently.
With a 43% increase in new site visits, BDR Thermea is now showcasing its capabilities to more potential and existing customers, which will support business growth as the company transforms.
The first benefits we've seen with using XM Cloud are around the speed – an update that used to take a day now takes just an hour. The instant ability to edit, preview, and publish has changed how our team expects to work. This eight-fold increase in efficiency will help us pivot the business as we support the energy transition.
