That's why we're continuing to invest in XP and XM, introducing new capabilities that simplify content operations and open new ways to work with AI, without asking teams to change how they already work.
Our latest work is one example of that commitment: giving XP and XM customers new ways to interact with and manage content using supported AI assistants, without requiring a migration or replatforming project.
Bringing AI into existing workflows
As AI becomes a standard part of how teams create and manage digital experiences, many XP and XM customers are considering how these capabilities can fit into the environments they run today.
The answer doesn't always need to be another interface, another application, or a large transformation project. Instead, we are focused on helping organizations work through the tools they already know.
That's what a governed system of work looks like: AI operating inside the platform you already trust, not bolted on beside it.
The Sitecore XM MCP Server Preview is designed to connect a customer-hosted XM or XP instance with supported, MCP-capable AI clients. It acts as a secure connection to the platform rather than carrying an AI model of its own, so customers can bring the AI tool and model that suit their organization.
The result: teams can use natural-language prompts to support common content operations while the Sitecore environment, credentials, and content remain under the customer's control.
Starting with practical content operations
The initial experience is centered on practical, repeatable work where AI assistance can reduce manual effort. Supported scenarios are expected to focus on translation and metadata editing, with additional item-level operations forming part of the broader direction.
- Translation assistance: Identify content that is missing a translation and help create localized versions.
- Metadata editing: Generate or refresh metadata from existing content fields to improve consistency and reduce repetitive work.
- Content discovery and inspection: Find content within a defined area and understand item structures or fields using conversational prompts.
- Content updates and comparisons: Support controlled item updates and make it easier to understand changes between versions.
The goal is not to replace the authoring experiences customers use today. It is to reduce friction around routine work and give marketers, content authors, and developers more flexible ways to accomplish it.
Designed for the environment customers already run
The MCP Server Preview is customer-hosted, either on the customer's own server or in Azure, and is designed to work directly with an existing supported XM or XP implementation. Nothing needs to move to SaaS, and customers do not need to replatform to begin exploring these workflows.
This approach keeps the customer in control of the environment and credentials, the governance piece of the story, not an afterthought to it, while opening the platform to MCP-capable clients they may already use, including productivity and developer tools.
A complementary approach to SitecoreAI
The MCP Server Preview and SitecoreAI are complementary. The MCP Server creates a connection between an existing XM or XP instance and a customer-selected AI client. SitecoreAI provides Sitecore's own AI experiences and a broader path to brand-aware generation, intelligent assistance, and connected capabilities across the Sitecore portfolio.
That distinction gives customers choice today while creating room for deeper Sitecore-powered experiences over time.
This is just the beginning
This work represents an important milestone, but it is only one part of the broader investment we're making in XP and XM.
